GET THE QUOD DAMAGE!!:)
Yes another night in with the lads :)
However this one was looking to turn out significantly tamer than usual. Probably due to the fact that Ben, Andrew and I were alone for quite some time sitting around watching what little there was on TV whilst passing round the GBA's playing an Advance Wars battle.
Then I figured I might whip out the Nerf Bazooka's my brother and his cousin had gotten for Christmas and left at the farm.. Anyhow I locked and loaded and entered the sitting room declaring in my best Arnie accent "I vill Ownz Joo all Boyeees" and let rip a salvo at ben who immediately picked up the other launcher and loaded. See the farm is really bloody big and quite empty in some areas, complete with a sitting room so absurdly and unnecessarily cavernous that it actually looks like a quake level. Perfect conditions for a Deathmatch :) What followed was a scene that wouldn't have looked out of place in Men Behaving Badly as we ducked behind sofas, jumped for cover and performed matrix like dodging to avoid the foamy-rounds before launching a nerf-rocket towards our opposite number. No words can convey the amount of fun had and how sad we must have looked haha!
We had one particular standoff at either ends of the living room as we ran at each other and luanched - reloaded - launcher - reloaded etc until we were down to one round each.. Mine struck ben in the Shoulder and I thew my hands up in victory, at least until Ben loosed off a full power - extra pressurized salvo into my groinal area.. I buckled like one of those string toys when you push your thumb into the stand to loosen the strain. Then whilst I was rolling on the floor he proceeded to launch 3 more rounds successively into my head... Methinks Ben has played a few to many FPS's.
(BTW the quod damage is one particular Nerf-Rocket which quadruples the points we get for hitting specific body-areas. Our scoring system is like this:
Lower body: 1 point
Upper body: 2 points
Ass shout: 3 points
Head shot: 5 points
Groin: 5 - but obviously more fun than the headshot - less so for the receiver. )
Next on my shopping list behind the extra RAM I want and my Retro-fitting my old Japanese Game Cube has to be some more Nerf Guns.. The multi-barreled ones with the 8 shot magazines :) Time to Up the ante!
In fact we were discussing getting walkie talkies to play Nerf Counter Strike. Now that would be superb.... We're supposed to be 18 to 19 years old!!
Vroom Vroom
We decided to get some food after having exhausted ourselves at Nerf-Quake and so drove off to Sainsbury's partly to let Ben say hi to his Girl Lauren and partly to get some sustinence. Sadly Ben and Andrew's complete lack of decision making skills rendered them completly incapable of making a choice of what to eat and so, in search of a more limited menu we went to a Fish & Chips shop and took our lives in our hands.. Well I did because I ordered a Jumbo Battered Sausage. Its got to be said that this particular Chip shop did put me in mind of Cut-me-own-throat-dibbler's "Meat" and more expensive "Named Meat" pies. I should have ordered the named meat... urgh.
On a good note however Andrew's driving is actually good, having spent more than enough time in Carl's motor at the mercy of his specialized driving style (specialized because most other road users know how to use the clutch and read speed limits =]) it was a breath of fresh air to be driving fast but controlled in a friend's car! He was also kind enough to drop me off in town this morning so I didn't have to walk. Good mate.
Oooooo Shadowbane
Would it hurt Swing (Shadowbane's European Publisher) to take a page out of Ubi's (US publisher) book? 3,000 new beta testers!
- The reasoning:
"We want this next wave to come in and break Shadowbane. We need them to tear it apart, so we can put it all back together - and then we will do it again."
Swing! (Yes that's how its spelt.. actually with the exclamation mark) however are doing combat balancing instead - Phht! Sissies! What do we need balanced PvP for? haha!
I can only hope that they notice that despite the Humans being the most populous race in Shadowbane there aren't really all that many of them in beta =] Balance the humans!! We want better Stats :) Of course I'm not actually in Beta to know this but by the looks of things from write-ups and pictures there really aren't enough of us powder-pink fleshy folks in-game.
Still, having seen the map Swing has posted about the whole world forced-redistribution I can see at least 2 cities which are pretty much on the absolute frontier of combat - that ought to be a fun place to be :)
Also anyone else who follows Shadowbane noticed the rather obvious LOTR allusion in the 2 towers of Swing!'s new Beta phase? Granted they are opposing in this instance but its nice to know that it wasn't a entirely arbitrary scenario :)
Friends are there for youuuuuuuu!
Yes that is the Garfield themetune.. For reasons as of yet unknown to me my youngest two siblings have been rewinding and watching the title again and again. I would be scared but at the moment I'm more super pissed off as there is only so much of that song that one can take! Arrrrgh! I can hear it even when its not playing!!!!
- Added: Found out they were trying to learn the words to the themetune.... WHY??
Extreme Quidditch!!
Ian has come through once again with new Machall comic. He seems to be back on normal distribution times again! Lord be praised! If you've read machall for a while you'll recognize the title of this particular topic. I really have to get round to practicing my artwork again today. Practice makes perfect I suppose. Besides I have so many ideas for stips that I think my head is going to explode =] Actually I recently read something which Gabe of Penny Arcade said to that extent. It described that feeling as indication that you really ought to be writing a strip. I take that as a sign from god.
nSync.. not the boyband
I'm talking about the application nSync which lets me sync Denning the Newton with OS 10.2 functions like the improved address book and the glorious iCal :D I'm loving it and probably would be using it an awful lot more if I was with Genevieve my G4 Tower at the moment as opposed to being on my 10.1 ibook - Trevor as I'm in Rowhedge.
Right I'm going to eat something.. Well.. I might.. Oh the choices!
Later folks!
Take care!
John
